The safety of Seaman USD 345 students, staff, and guests is very important to us. In order to maintain a safe environment, it is necessary that we practice our Emergency Operation Plan by having drills designed to exercise our procedures. The students and staff of each school will practice four types of emergency drills throughout the school year. They are:
- Fire
- Tornado
- Crisis
- Bus Evacuation
Each type of drill is explained below:
Fire Drills
Fire drills are held four times a year and at different times throughout the day in order to familiarize students with as many scenarios as possible.
Tornado Drills
Tornado drills are conducted three times per school year, also at varying times throughout the day. When severe weather threatens students are moved into the tornado shelters until the threat has passed. To avoid unnecessary anxiety from students, tornado drills will be held on nice days when possible.
Crisis Drills
Crisis drills practice securing the building and safely sheltering all students, staff, and guests inside. On multiple occasions throughout the year, we conduct lockdown drills to practice our actions in the event of a threat or other emergency on school grounds. These drills are coordinated with district security and we often have local law enforcement on site to monitor.
Bus Evacuation Drills
Bus drivers with the Seaman Transportation Department walk students through bus evacuation drills two times each year. This is done during the school day in order for all students to have the opportunity to take part.
Please know that in addition to the school-wide drills described above, individual classrooms discuss and practice these routines many more times throughout the year.
These emergency drills are done to ensure that our schools are a safe place to learn, work, and visit. If you have any questions, contact the school office.
